Snap-O Fact #75

President Obama Signed A Real Clean Air Bill!

In order to protect the environment and the nation’s public health by reducing diesel pollution, President Obama signed the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) on Jan 4, 2011. This act authorized a $500 million fund to clean up diesel emissions in the country over the next five years.

The fund will help the Environmental Protection Agency to improve diesel

   emission control.

The fact is that older diesel buses and trucks have been producing a toxic soot that causes asthma attacks, bronchitis, cancer, as well as other medical problems and even premature death.  In addition these pollutants contribute to nitrogen oxide filling the air. This chemical significantly adds to our chronic ozone problems in the summertime.

The good news is that with the current technology we are able to clean up 90 percent of these dirty spewings. The Diesel Emissions Act is helping us do this cleanup job which benefits every living being on the planet.
