Snap-O Fact #67

President Obama Protected Our Natural Geographical Treasures!

In order to secure our mountains, oceans, parks, forests, rivers, and lakes, on March 30, 2009, President Obama signed the "Omnibus Public Lands Management Act" protecting millions of acres of scenic, historic, and recreational lands and trails. According to CNN, “among other things, the law also establishes 10 new National Heritage sites, authorizes numerous Bureau of Reclamation water projects, and alters several national park boundaries. It specifically creates 21 new wilderness areas and expands 19 existing wilderness areas in 10 national forests.” The purpose of the legislation is to save the environment as well as to protect historic sites across the country such as Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
