Snap-O Fact #45

The Obama Administration Provided Access For Poor Children To Have Health Insurance Coverage. When the President took office, forty-five million Americans did not have health insurance; among them, 8 million children. On Feb 4, 2009, President Obama signed the Children’s Health Insurance Bill extending government health care to 4 million low-income children in the United States. Additionally, $32.8 billion has been added to the program, which helps to cover 7 million children now. This coverage was established to provide for children in families not qualified for Medicaid and who cannot afford private health insurance. "It's about time that the most civilized country in the world gave health care coverage to all of its children," said Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colo., one of the chief sponsors of the bill.
