Snap Fact #355

President Obama is Four Square For Every Citizen to Vote: While Republicans Are Attempting to Suppress the Vote!

But it’s worse still. Effecting this Big Lie not only confuses and delays, and sometimes stops qualified voters to exercise their constitutional rights; it also masks another actual fraud that is being perpetrated from the Republican side. Recently the official Republican Party has been caught red-handed cheating by their paid enrollers destroying Democratic registrations while handing in Republican Registrations. The big Lie is therefore a double-edge sword that can slice apart the truth with both edges.

Why would we so firmly call the Republican platform regarding voter suppression the Big Lie? We do because the lie is so colossal that even Republican leaning judges are ruling against the Republican conspiracy to stop typically Democratic voting blocs from voting. In Pennsylvania’s case it has been estimated that as many as 10% of the electorate could have been suppressed had the courts not intervened. If you are keeping score of the potentially affected Pennsylvania voters, it’s 750,000 to 0.

Again we merely have to examine the records in the states with total Republican control to see that the seeds sown in the Republican Platform bear its bitter fruit in the field.

The fact is that there is virtually no voter fraud of this kind documented anywhere in this country. This is merely a shameless ploy to trample the right and ability to vote by certain groups of citizens who traditionally favor the Democrats at the polls so another election can be stolen.

FYI, some specific tactics that the State /Republican parties are using to suppress the vote of Democratic leaning affinity groups such as the elderly, Latinos, Students, African /Americans, and the infirmed follow:

Tactic One: Toughen Voter ID Requirements

Tactic Two: Create Hurdles To Get Required ID

Tactic Three: Intimidate Voter Registration Groups

Tactic Four: Try To Eliminate Same-Day Registration

Tactic Five: Curtail Early Voting

Tactic Six: Ban Felons From Voting

Tactic Seven: Bleed Election Administration Budgets

Reader, I hope you are as disgusted as I am and will not vote to but these stealers of the American Dream into office.

Opinions of the Rational Majority

It is difficult to pinpoint the actual zenith of hypocrisy in the Republican Campaign of 2012, but their Platform section on voter suppression is certainly a leading candidate. There is a vast chasm between their written words and their actual record. One might equate this with the “Big Lie” theory. We must admit that this is not new. Nor is this tempting device to advance their respective goals limited to one party. However, in 2012 the Republicans have taken this notorious ploy a quantitative and qualitative height not seen before in this country.Historically, the Big Lie has been used in other times and other places. Here is an excerpt from an original text on the subject.

" … in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; …thus in the primitive simplicity of their (the public – Ed) minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation.”*

The more familiar quote is,, “If a lie is repeated enough times it would become widely accepted as truth.”**

Don’t get me wrong, we are not implying that Right Wingers are Nazis; but it is clear that at the least, they have taken one play from Hitler’s playbook and they are running for daylight with it.

We make our case directly from the Republican Platform. Let’s see what this duplicitous document has to say about what they call Voter Integrity. “Honest elections are the foundation of representative government”. We can all agree with that statement, but the following paragraph is where one Big Lie begins.

“We support state efforts to ensure ballot access for the elderly, the handicapped, military personnel, and all authorized voters”. On the surface this still sounds good; but the question arises - who do they count as an “authorized voter”? The Platform goes on. “For the same reason we applaud legislation to require photo identification for voting to prevent election fraud, particularly with regard to registration and absentee ballots.”

Their claim is that there are so many people fraudulently voting in American elections that the process needs to be protected from this nationwide conspiracy in order to protect the integrity of our entire electoral system. The perpetrators of this mis-information are putting forward what they know to be a deliberate and willful Big Lie; and this is only one of the many Big Lies in this campaign.

Quoting the worst voter fraud statistic I could find; from 2002 to 2008 it is reported that there were only 100 convictions out of 140 complaints in the entire United States. That’s 17 a year! Americans have about 20 times the odds of being struck by lightning. The second worse report came from Fox News who reported on a group who found 31 recent abuses, but this was later proved to be a false report.

The facts show that the instances of this type of voter fraud are, and have been, virtually non-existent. Even in the Pennsylvania court case which reversed the State’s Republican generated voter repression campaign, the State could not present one actual case of fraud to the court – not one, zero!. In this instance the repressive measures the state Republicans had enacted would have potentially denied the vote to about 10% of the voting population. Fortunately the Pennsylvania courts put a stop to this dastardly attempt.
