Snap-O Fact #46

President Obama Has Stood Up For Workers With Disabilities.

Before leaving office, President Clinton issued Executive Order No. 13173 in July 2000 to hire an additional 100,000 federal employees with disabilities within five years. President Obama reinstated and signed an identical Order on July 26, 2010, keeping a promise he had made in December 2009. The Order designs a strategy for companies seeking to employ disabled workers. It created a mandatory training programs for human resources personnel as well. Under the Order, each federal agency is required to establish a specific employment plan for workers with disabilities to find a job easier and faster. The Office of Personnel Management is mandated to update the statistics regularly on its website so that the President can see the result, evaluate the program, and improve it, and the public can monitor the process as well.
