Snap-O Fact #53

President Obama Signed The Social Security Number Protection Act!On Dec 18, 2010, President Obama signed the Social Security Number Protection Act to ensure the people’s privacy rights. According to the Social Security online website, this Act prohibits former practice of showing social security account numbers on checks paid by the government. This small but important attention to detail insures that no thief can open your mail and steal your identity. Besides, the Act also “would prohibit any Federal, State, or local agency from employing, or entering into a contract for the use or employment of, prisoners in any capacity that would allow them access to the Social Security numbers of other individuals,” surely a common sense provision.
