Fact #41

The Obama Administration Reduced Wasteful Military Spending

According to the Government Accountability Office, about 70 percent of 95 weapon programs in the United States went over the budget in 2008. On May 22, 2009, President Obama signed the Weapons System Acquisition Reform Act to reduce wasteful spending on weapons. This legislation established the Office of Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation (CAPE) in order to examine the cost of current programs and analyze/predict the cost of new programs. The CAPE will then report directly to the Secretary of Defense and the Office of Program Analysis and Evaluation. Besides, the act also requires better and more careful process to test weapons before they go to production to ensure the quality and efficiency of weapons.
