Snap Fact #314

Obama: Etched in Stone vs. Romney: Etch-A-Sketch!

It’s not just the Governor, his entire campaign is in this mode. In an incredible moment of telling candor, Romney’s camp assured the electorate that their candidate would retool his approach after the primaries were over.

On March 12, 2012 CNN reported that, “Eric Fehrnstrom, Romney's senior campaign adviser, was asked in a CNN interview Wednesday morning whether the former Massachusetts governor had been forced to adopt conservative positions in the rugged race that could hurt his standing with moderates in November's general election.” His jaw dropping answer was, “I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes," Fehrnstrom responded. "It's almost like an Etch-A-Sketch. You can kind of shake it up, and we start all over again."

Here’s the real question, is the Romney campaign interested in substance or presentation. If it’s substance they need to tell America what the candidate’s genuine core beliefs, guiding philosophy, projected policies, and be clear what his actual Plan of Action is. The Rational Majority challenges the campaign to do that so everyone knows what to expect if he becomes president. What it looks like is that they keep trying to find a message that clicks with the electorate. They do this with no regard to their own belief in that message.

While Romney struggles trying to find a formula that he can’t find because his core is empty, President Obama has achieved the confidence of the majority of Americans because we know where he stands and we know that Mr. Obama values his word. The President’s values are indelibly etched in the granite certainty of his record.

He has been consistently true to his clearly expressed values, and he has kept all of the promises that the destructive opposition has not been able to thwart with their unreasonable and unpatriotic obstruction.

It is almost time for each of us to make an individual decision on who to vote for. It is almost time for America to make a collective decision on who will be our president. The Rational Majority advocates that each of us inform ourselves and vote for the candidate of our choice based on an examination of the facts. We urge the voter to put aside any pre-conceived notions that block us from seeing what is really in our own self-interest.

How many times will former Governor Romney shake down his Etch-A-Sketch like a shared thermometer in a fever epidemic?

For those paying any attention, a listing of all of the candidate’s flip-flops, pandering-proclamations, mellifluous multiple choices, woeful wobbles, and viral-vacillations is unnecessary. He has been on both sides of every important issue, and often more than once, and even in the same conversation.

The AP recently reported that, “A parade of blue-collar workers and business executives tried to undercut Mitt Romney's business experience Wednesday, casting him as an executive "without a moral compass."

The equivocator-in-chief has not been consistent on any single major issue. It seems as though the Governor says what he thinks the audience he is talking to wants to hear – the next day he addresses a different audience and says the opposite.

Some would say that this is the description of a liar – you choose which kind. (A compulsive liar merely lies out of habit. It may reach a point where it is uncomfortable to tell the truth. A pathological liar has no regard for the feelings of others. They will lie to get their way, and some have little control over their lying. Pathological lying, also known as pseudologia fantastica, is a pattern of lying that is both habitual and done despite negative consequences.)
