Snap Fact #217

Super-Snap – What You Really NEED To Know About ObamaCare!

The Rational Majority has always relied on our own excellent and committed research team to do all of our Snap Caps. Today and for the next ten days we are going to turn to the resources of Consumers Union, an objective, non-affiliated, and highly respected subsidiary of Consumers Reports. This impartial observer has set out a simple, understandable, and clearly written annotated list of the benefits of the Act and where to turn for further information. The Rational Majority will publish one aspect each day so our readers can truly understand, in digestible bites, the true benefits of ObamaCare.

You will notice that we will be using the term "ObamaCare" in this series. In the past, this term has been used to deride the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The Rational Majority believes that the term ObamaCare will ultimately be regarded as a badge of honor as more and more people become aware of the many benefits that the Act provides average Americans. Therefore, we proudly credit the man most responsible for the Affordable Health Care Act, President Barack Obama who fought for the benefits of common person.

We will start with the purpose statement from Jim Guest, the president of Consumers Report, and then address the issues separately over the next ten days. The following is what Jim had to say in introducing his illuminating report:

Consumer Reports In 2010, Congress passed a sweeping health-care reform law known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA for short), which brought with it many new benefits for consumers. However, many Americans remain confused about this law and are unclear about how it will affect them and their families.

That’s where Consumers Union, the policy and advocacy arm of Consumer Reports, comes in. Since its founding 75 years ago, the organization has been focused on providing consumers with easy-to-understand comparative information so that they can make the best decisions in the marketplace.

We know firsthand that the health-care marketplace is one that consumers have had difficulty navigating because of its complexity. To help consumers figure out how to take advantage of key consumer protections in the ACA, we have put together a series of guides—this being the third about the new health-care law.

The protections are aimed at stopping some of the most egregious insurance company practices and making sure Americans have access to quality, more affordable health care.

As always, we appreciate your feedback in our ongoing efforts to provide consumers with the information they need to make the choices they want.
