Snap Fact #347
President Obama Lights the Menorah in the White House While Mitt Romney Baptizes Murdered Holocaust Victims as Mormons!
While Romney was showing his “respect” to his good Jewish friends in this fashion, President Obama’s record has always shown a genuine respect for the Jewish religion and its teachings, Mitt Romney has a huge and serious blemish on his record with the Jewish Community, and he’s never recanted or apologized.
It would be refreshing to hear someone on the Jewish Right, who is so quick to criticize President Obama for some made up e-mail generated slight, hold Governor Romney’s feet to the fire for this genuine and egregious affront to the Jewish Community.
Likewise where are those same voices who could correct the record by pointing out that President Obama visited Yad Vashem (Israel’s memorial to the six million) when he visited Israel in July of 2008, shortly before his election victory.
This is contrary to Governor Romney who recently made his only visit to Israel and chose not to visit Yad Vashem during his bungled visit. Was he bedeviled by the thought of the spirits of those martyrs whose very identity that they had been murdered for, had reinvented by Elder Romney’s misguided actions?
The Rational Majority SNAP-CAP #271 reported on all of the U.S. presidents’ relationships with the Jewish community. Here is a quote, “Starting in 2009, Obama was the FIRST president to host a Passover Seder in the White House residence, marking perhaps the FIRST time that gefilte fish was served on Presidential fine china, and it is a tradition which is now in its third year, with Obama at the head of the table.”
And the President personally hosted the Annual White House Chanukah party which he initiated in his first year in office. As the menorah candles burned brightly in the White House dining room last December, the President reminded the celebrants that, “ Our commitment to Israel's security is unshakable”. Of course he boldly redelivered that message to the entire world in his forceful United Nations speech on September 25th, 2012.
Sylvia Guirnsky is a former editor of the Jewish Journal. Writing in the October 3, 2012 issue of that magazine. Ms. Guirnsky has raised an interesting, perhaps significant, fact about who Governor Romney really is and what he really stands for. You have probably heard about the scandal in the Mormon Church called “Proxy Baptism”. The story can be summed up briefly; The official Mormon Church had a very bazaar policy of secretly “baptizing” Jewish Holocaust victims. This clandestine procedure is strange enough on its face, but it shows such a total insensitivity and crass disregard for the memories of these six million martyrs as well as their living relatives.
On February 14, 2012, Holocaust survivor and Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel called on Governor Romney to denounce this ghastly practice. His comments followed reports that Mormons had baptized the deceased parents of Simon Wiesenthal, the late Holocaust survivor and Nazi-hunter. While the official Mormon Church has sent out mixed signals, Romney has remained characteristically silent on the matter.
At the risk of lowering ourselves to the level of the Reverend Wright screamers, Romney’s complicity is much deeper than knowing that his Church had such unsavory practices and sitting still for the practice.
This goes much, much deeper. By his own admission, Romney confessed his own participation in this unsavory practice. In a 2007 interview with Newsweek, Romney personally admitted that he had participated in Proxy Baptisms, but “I haven’t recently,” he quickly added.
